Cannes 2023: Indiana Jones 5, the new Martin Scorsese…

Harrison Ford was awarded an Honorary Palme d'Or before the screening of "Indiana Jones 5," marking a significant moment at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The highly anticipated premiere of "Indiana Jones 5" took center stage, with the 80-year-old actor making his way down the red carpet to the surprise presentation of the prestigious Honorary Palme d'Or.

While the out-of-competition selection does not allow films to compete for the Palme d'Or, it remains prestigious nonetheless. This parallel section is mainly an opportunity to showcase high-profile works intended for a wider audience. Unsurprisingly, the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival continues this tradition.

First and foremost, it's time for the return of Indiana Jones! Fifteen years after the presentation of the fourth film directed by Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford is back on the Croisette for this new installment titled "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." Spielberg is stepping aside, and James Mangold (known for "Logan" and "Ford v Ferrari") is taking the reins. The film will be premiered on May 18th, just two days after the festival's launch, and it will also pay tribute to the 80-year-old American actor. For the national cinema release, fans will have to wait until June 28th.

Another exciting event is the new film by Martin Scorsese, "Killers of the Flower Moon," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone, a talented indigenous actress. With this feature film, "Martin Scorsese continues to explore the history of his country," says Thierry Frémaux, the festival's general delegate.

Beyond the director's name, this presentation is a true event because the film was initially scheduled for release on the Apple TV+ platform in France. However, thanks to this selection, Apple and Paramount have joined forces to offer "Killers of the Flower Moon" in theaters on October 18th.
