Québec Creativity Shines at MIPCOM 2023 with Four Nominated Series

Montreal, October 5, 2023 - The vibrant and innovative Québec audiovisual industry is gearing up for a grand showcase at this year's MIPCOM event in Cannes. Under the Québec créatif banner, organized by the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), around 80 professionals from over forty Québec businesses are set to take part in MIPCOM activities from October 16 to 19. The spotlight will be on four series nominated as competition finalists, while Québec producers will also feature prominently in the International Drama Co-Production Breakfast.

Four Nominated Series Shine Bright

Québec's creative prowess has been making waves both nationally and internationally, and this year is no different. The series "À propos d'Antoine" (About Antoine), produced by Podz (ComediHa! Amuz Distribution), which clinched the Best French Foreign Fiction Production award at La Rochelle's Festival de la Fiction, is now in contention for the Diversify TV Awards in the "Representation of Disability – Scripted" category.

Two other Québec series, recently celebrated at the prestigious Gémeaux Awards, are also making their mark. "Cracké, la famille s'éclate" (Cracké Family Scramble) (Squeeze Productions), which earned the Gémeaux for "Best Animated Program or Series," is vying for the "Best Animated Kids Programme" at the Content Innovation Awards. "Indéfendable" (Indefensible) (Pixcom), honored with the Gémeaux Award for "Best Daily Drama Series," is now a finalist in the "Best New Scripted Series Non-English Language" category.

Additionally, the series "Le lot du diable : la conquête de la mer" (The Devil's Lot: So Help Me Cod!) (Zone3) has secured a spot as a finalist at the International Format Awards in the "Best Competition Reality Format" category.

International Drama Co-Production Breakfast

Québec's talents continue to impress on the global stage. Several Québec producers have been invited to participate in the prestigious International Drama Co-Production Breakfast. Among them are Josette Normandeau, president and producer at Ideacom International, Nicola Merola, president of Pixcom, and Michael Prupas, founder and CEO of Muse Entertainment.

SODEC's Exclusive Networking Event

SODEC is going all out to promote Québec's cultural exports. An exclusive event is planned, where six Québec producers will engage with six international buyers specializing in young people's programming. This initiative is set to take place a few days ahead of MIPCOM as part of MIPJUNIOR.

Gratitude to Partners

SODEC extends its gratitude to AQPM (Association québécoise de production médiatique), the main partner in organizing this year's Québec créatif at MIPCOM. The event's success has also been made possible through the generous support of Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton and the National Bank.

About SODEC

SODEC's mission is to foster and support the growth of cultural enterprises in Québec, both nationally and internationally, across various sectors including audiovisual, books, publishing, crafts, art, music, and variety. SODEC also plays a vital role in preserving and showcasing a heritage property portfolio comprising 32 buildings that reflect the rich Québec identity.

With Québec's creative talent on full display, MIPCOM 2023 promises to be a celebration of innovation, storytelling, and the global appeal of Québec's audiovisual industry.
