Qatar Vows to Retaliate After “Flagrant” Iranian Attack

Qatar announced on Monday that it reserves the right to respond to Iran, describing Tehran’s recent actions against its territory as a “flagrant attack”, amid escalating regional tensions following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Statement from Qatari Officials

Majid al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told CNN that “the Iranian strikes cannot go unanswered” and warned that “a price must be paid.” He said Doha was targeted by over 100 missiles and dozens of drones, with some hitting civilian and commercial infrastructure.

Al-Ansari expressed deep concern over attacks on non-military sites in the Gulf, including energy facilities, following reports of drones intercepted near a Saudi refinery.

Currently, Qatar maintains no diplomatic contact with Tehran, focusing instead on defending its territory and protecting strategic infrastructure on land and at sea. The Qatari military has implemented specific measures to safeguard the country’s economic assets.

Regional Context

The heightened tensions follow U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on Saturday, which killed several senior officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israel, U.S. facilities, and multiple Gulf countries, including Qatar.

As the situation develops, Qatar has emphasized its determination to defend its sovereignty while monitoring regional security closely.
