Ruben Östlund, the Palme d'Or-winning Swedish director, will preside over the jury of the 76th Cannes Film Festival. He will be joined by a diverse group of international filmmakers and actors, each with their own unique history and relationship with the festival.
Brie Larson, the American actress known for her roles in "Room" and "Captain Marvel," made her Cannes debut in 2013 with "Short Term 12" and returned in 2015 with "Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo." She has also served on the jury of the Venice Film Festival in 2021.
Julia Ducournau, the French director of "Titane," which won the Palme d'Or in 2021, made her Cannes debut in 2016 with "Raw," which premiered in the Critics' Week section. She has also presented her short films in the festival's other programs.
Rungano Nyoni, the Zambian-British director, premiered her debut feature "I Am Not a Witch" in the Directors' Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. The film went on to win numerous awards at festivals worldwide.
Maryam Touzani, the Moroccan director, made her Cannes debut in 2018 with "Aya," which was selected for the Directors' Fortnight. Her second feature, "Adam," premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival in 2019.
Paul Dano, the American actor and director, has appeared in multiple Cannes-selected films, including "There Will Be Blood," "Okja," and "Love & Mercy." He also served on the festival's Un Certain Regard jury in 2017.
Denis Ménochet, the French actor known for his roles in "Inglourious Basterds" and "Two Days, One Night," has also appeared in several Cannes-selected films, including "Ismael's Ghosts" and "The French Dispatch."
Atiq Rahimi, the Afghan-French filmmaker and novelist, won the Prix Goncourt for his novel "Syngué sabour, pierre de patience" in 2008. His debut feature film, "Earth and Ashes," premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of Cannes in 2004.
Damián Szifron, the Argentine filmmaker, presented his debut feature film "Wild Tales" in the Official Selection of Cannes in 2014. The film won the Jury Prize and went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
Together, these accomplished and diverse jury members will bring a wealth of experience and perspective to the selection of films for the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
