UAE Search and Rescue Team's Humanitarian Efforts in Libya After Hurricane Daniel
The humanitarian mission of the Emirati search and rescue team on Libyan soil has been instrumental in locating 181 missing individuals in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Daniel that struck the city of Derna in neighboring Libya. Their tireless efforts along the city's coast and in the most heavily affected areas have yielded these results.
The Emirati search and rescue team has collaborated with Libyan authorities and specialized teams to aid those affected and displaced by the disaster. They have provided assistance and relief, as well as identified the locations of victims of this catastrophe, recovering bodies and remains from homes, along the seashore, and beneath the rubble. Currently, the teams are focusing on identifying the victims through the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team.
The DVI team is the first in the world to arrive in Derna for these specialized tasks. It comprises experts, specialists, forensic medicine consultants, dental professionals, and DNA specialists, equipped with advanced tools and equipment for handling mass fatalities.
These efforts are part of the UAE's continuous humanitarian assistance to support Libya, reflecting their humanitarian vision. They aim to alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis faced by the Libyan people in the wake of Hurricane Daniel.
