Participation of the National Human Rights Committee in the 54th Session of the UN Human Rights Council
The 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, witnessed the participation of a delegation from the National Human Rights Committee, led by Her Excellency Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee. The delegation attended the session as "observers" during the adoption of the recommendations of the fourth periodic review of the United Arab Emirates, which took place on October 3, 2023.
The delegation also took part in various side events focusing on human rights issues of interest and within the Committee's jurisdiction, aimed at promoting and protecting human rights.
Fatima Al Kaabi emphasized that the Committee's participation in the 54th session of the Human Rights Council aligns with their commitment to monitoring international human rights developments and conveying the global vision of countries and non-governmental organizations regarding the ongoing progress in the United Arab Emirates' human rights journey. She commended the recognition from countries and organizations for the UAE's efforts in promoting human rights, particularly through the establishment of the National Human Rights Committee based on the principles of Paris. The presence of the delegation from the National Human Rights Committee at the current session of the Human Rights Council reflects the current human rights focus in the UAE, monitoring human rights developments and highlighting current international issues within this context.
The delegation from the National Human Rights Committee included Her Excellency Mariam Al Ahmadi, Chairperson of the International Relations and Non-Governmental Organizations Committee, Mrs. Alia Al Mazmi, Acting Director of the Council Affairs Office and its Committees, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al Oubthani, Head of the International and Regional Organizations Department.
