Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Calls on Media to Play a Bigger Role in Climate Change Awareness

Dubai,  Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the CEO of the United Arab Emirates Independent Authority for Climate Change Accelerators, has urged various media outlets to take a major role in supporting efforts to raise public awareness about climate change. She also called on all stakeholders in environmental issues to clarify any ambiguity surrounding terms and concepts closely related to climate change.

This occurred during a dialogue with Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan in a session titled "Media and Climate Change" as part of the activities on the closing day of the 21st Arab Media Forum. During the session, she highlighted the endeavors of the UAE's Independent Authority for Climate Change Accelerators in addressing climate change challenges. The interview was moderated by media personality Lara Habib.

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan emphasized the commitment of visionary leaders to place the climate change issue at the top of their priorities, in line with a vision to accelerate climate action. She noted that climate change remains a fundamental topic in the United Arab Emirates and highlighted the pioneering efforts made by all sectors in the country in the field of environment and climate action. These efforts reflect the nation's dedication to reducing the impacts of climate change, necessitating a concerted effort to address its consequences, in accordance with the "Fifty Principles" and the country's development strategies.

She stated that the UAE's Independent Authority for Climate Change Accelerators, in its pioneering efforts to address climate change challenges and achieve the goal of net-zero carbon emissions, recently launched the digital platform "The Climate Tribe." This platform focuses on promoting climate action through storytelling, global community interaction, and extensive cooperation.

She explained that the new digital platform showcases the efforts and achievements of global change-makers and innovation leaders to inspire the UAE community. In addition to celebrating sustainable practices and environmental traditions, the platform consists of three key elements, including an integrated multimedia platform that offers visual content.

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan also announced the launch of an Arabic and English environmental dictionary to help the community understand the meaning of various environmental terms, aiming to eliminate any ambiguity related to climate change-related terminology and concepts.

Furthermore, she clarified that the Emirates Carbon Alliance, recently initiated by the UAE's Independent Climate Change Accelerators, is a consortium of partners dedicated to supporting the development and growth of a carbon market in the UAE. The alliance comprises prestigious institutions that recognize the significance of carbon credits and their effective impact in achieving net-zero emission goals.

Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan emphasized that the Emirates Carbon Alliance aims to strengthen carbon removal efforts, develop innovative standards and frameworks for successful carbon initiatives, and raise awareness and knowledge about carbon markets. Additionally, it supports institutions in implementing programs and initiatives dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
