Demi Moore, Godmother of the award for

 cinema’s up-and-coming generation

Actress, producer and NYT best-selling author Demi Moore will be the Godmother of the Trophée Chopard presented at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Created in 2001, this prize honours the rising generation of international cinema by annually rewarding an actress and an actor who have made a promising start to their careers. The awards ceremony will take place on May 17th 2024 at the Carlton Beach, during an official dinner of the Festival, at the joint invitation of Iris Knobloch (President of the Festival), Thierry Frémaux (General Delegate of the Festival) and Caroline Scheufele (Co-President and Artistic Director Chopard).

To take over from Natalie Portman, who handed the Trophée Chopard 2023 to Naomi Ackie and Daryl McCormack, Caroline Scheufele has asked Demi Moore to be the Godmother of the 24th ceremony.

Through this choice, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director is calling upon one of the industry's most accomplished performers, lending her talents to an array of revered films and television both in front of and behind the camera. Demi Moore set a record in 1995 when she became the highest-paid actress in Hollywood, a testament to her star power and box office appeal.

The Trophée Chopard 2024 Godmother can recently be seen in the second season of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, which premiered in January. Demi Moore has been cast in Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace drama, Landman (Paramount +), which is currently in production. The actress will also soon be seen in Coralie Fargeat’s first studio feature, The Substance, alongside Margaret Qualley. The body horror film will make its debut in competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.

In 2020, Demi Moore added New York Times Best Seller to her list of credits with her memoir Inside Out. In this emotionally charged biography, she opens up about her career and personal life. A story of survival, success, and surrender as well as resilience; a wrenchingly honest portrayal of one woman’s at once ordinary and iconic life.

A committed woman, Demi Moore is a co-founder of Thorn, a non-profit organization building technology to defend children from sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking.

About Demi Moore as Godmother of the Trophée Chopard, Caroline Scheufele said: “I am very excited to welcome Demi Moore as our Trophée Chopard’s Godmother. She is perfect for this role, as she embodies what rising talents can strive for, with a constant reinvention through daring role choices she fearlessly embraced. Her long and diverse career epitomizes the Hollywood success story and I am sure that the laureates of the 24th Trophée Chopard will receive invaluable advice from their godmother.”

The Trophée Chopard

Since 2001, the Trophée Chopard has been annually awarded to an actress and to an actor at the start of their career. Through this prize created by Caroline Scheufele to support the up-and-coming generation of international cinema talent, the Maison reaffirms its unconditional love for the seventh art. The two winners are chosen by the Académie du Trophée Chopard, composed of winners, Godmothers and Godfathers from previous editions of the Trophée.

From Marion Cotillard (Oscar for Best Actress in 2008) to Léa Seydoux (Palme d'or in 2013), as well as Diane Kruger (Best Actress Award at Cannes in 2017), Niels Schneider (2017 César Best Male Newcomer Award), along with Florence Pugh and Jessie Buckley who were nominated for Oscars just a few months after being awarded the Trophée Chopard in 2019 and 2021, the laureates of the Trophée Chopard have consistently confirmed the hopes placed in them.

The roster of legendary talents who have served as Trophée Chopard Godmothers and Godfathers over the years include some of the biggest names in international cinema including Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Zhang Ziyi, Robert de Niro, Charlize Theron, Sean Penn and Cate Blanchett, to name but a few.
