Sharjah Ruler Approves Central Region City Water Reservoir Project

In a significant development for the emirate of Sharjah, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, has officially approved the City Water Reservoir project in the central region of the emirate. The project comes at an estimated cost of AED 261 million and aims to address crucial water resource needs.

Under the directives of His Highness, the design and construction of this substantial water reservoir, boasting a capacity of 6 million cubic meters (equivalent to 1.3 billion gallons), will commence shortly.

The strategic project has been devised to ensure a stable and sustainable water supply within the region, serving various sectors, including agriculture and livestock. In 2023, a notable 400 hectares of land in Mleiha were dedicated to wheat cultivation, with plans to expand the wheat cultivation areas to a total of 1,500 hectares by the year 2024, marking a significant agricultural initiative.

Furthermore, the City Water Reservoir will play a pivotal role in supporting the cattle farm project set to launch this year, commencing with 1,000 cattle of superior breeds and the promise of doubling the count to 2,000 in the following year.

This strategic water reservoir will also serve other livestock ventures, such as poultry, sheep, and goats, starting this year with carefully selected and top-quality breeds.

The approval of this crucial water infrastructure project underscores Sharjah's commitment to sustainable development, ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted water supply to fuel the growth of various economic sectors and provide for the well-being of its residents.
