Dubai Customs Seizes 200,000 Narcotic and Restricted Substances

Dubai Customs Seizes 200,000 Narcotic and Restricted Substances

Dubai, September 17 - Dubai Customs successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 200,000 narcotic and restricted substances with an estimated market value of approximately 6.2 million dirhams through air cargo.

The details of the seizure trace back to the suspicions raised by the special team within the Customs Intelligence Department regarding two shipments arriving from an Asian country. The first shipment, comprising 20 parcels weighing 460 kilograms, was inspected, revealing narcotic substances, medications, and restricted drugs amounting to 33,284 pills, with a market value of around 1 million dirhams. The second shipment, consisting of 22 parcels weighing 520 kilograms, contained 175,300 Tramadol pills with an estimated market value of approximately 5.25 million dirhams. As a result, the confiscated goods and those involved were handed over to the General Department of Anti-Narcotics in the Dubai Police, in accordance with established legal procedures.

Mr. Ahmed Mahboub Musabih, the Director-General of Dubai Customs and the CEO of Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, stated, "Dubai Customs has embraced a primary goal in its 2021-2026 strategy, which is to lead the world in secure customs. Through its human resources and specialized systems, it aims to enhance security and protect the community and the economy." He also emphasized that as Dubai advances in the global leadership race, the emirate has become an international model in combating all types of prohibited, restricted, and narcotic substances. Dubai Customs actively participates in these efforts to maintain its position as an international hub for trade, investment, and living.

He commended the efforts of the Customs Intelligence Department's team members, recognizing their strong sense of national security and their commitment to enhancing Dubai's and the United Arab Emirates' global reputation. They achieve this by thwarting attempts to smuggle narcotic substances, thus protecting individuals and society from the risks and damage these substances pose, both to human health and safety, as well as the economic and social aspects, whether these substances are destined for the local market or any other country via Dubai.
