SCELF and the Marché du Film: Shoot the Book! 2024 Selection Revealed

For the 11th edition of Shoot the Book! on May 16 and 17, SCELF and the Marché du Film announce the selection of books they will pitch on May 16 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. This year's official selection includes:
  • Reeling (Chavirer) by Lola Lafon, ACTES SUD, France
  • Aphrodite’s Breath: A Mother and Daughter’s Greek Island Adventure by Susan Johnson, ALLEN & UNWIN, Australia
  • The Womb Rebellion by P.W Long, BLUE OCEAN PRESS, USA
  • The Dyatlov Pass Mystery (Le Mystère du Col Dyatlov) by Cédric Mayen et Jandro González, ÉDITIONS DU LOMBARD, France

The selection spans various genres, including social novels, thrillers, autobiographies, comics, and young adult literature. A jury of audiovisual professionals established by the Film Français, a partner of Shoot the Book!, has chosen these stories. In addition to the selection, Switzerland, honored as the Country of Honor at the 2024 Marché du Film, will highlight the literary catalogs of local publishers, in collaboration with Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council.

The SCELF, or the Civil Society of French-Speaking Publishers, is a copyright collection and distribution company founded by literary publishers. They have mandated the SCELF to collect the rights generated by various adaptations of their work. With nearly 300 publishers and members, the SCELF serves as a link between authors' companies and French-speaking publishers, redistributing royalties. It aims to encourage all forms of literary adaptation and hosts events like the Rencontres SCELF de l’Audiovisuel and Shoot the Book!
