Dubai Racing Carnival Announces New Season with Bigger Prizes and Extended Races
The exciting world of horse racing in Dubai is gearing up for an incredible new season. The renowned Meydan course will host a longer and more rewarding Dubai Racing Carnival this year.
In line with Dubai continuous development and visionary leadership of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Racing Club has introduced a fresh structure for the upcoming 2023-2024 racing season.
Previously known for two decades as the international Arabian Business hub for racing, the transformed season has been renamed the Dubai Racing Carnival. This rebranding brings with it a substantial increase in prize money, attracting highly competitive fields.
The revamped Racing Carnival acknowledges the improving quality of local horses and highlights the world-class facilities that Dubai offers as a base for racing in the region. This has enticed international runners to spend their winter training in the Dubai sun, leading to remarkable success stories like Mawj, a filly trained by Saeed bin Suroor. Mawj triumphed at Meydan Racecourse before returning to the UK and winning the prestigious Group 1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.
Sheikh Rashed bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Racing Club, expressed his excitement, saying, "The new shape and identity of the Dubai Racing Carnival have the potential to strengthen Dubai position as a regional center for horse racing and a favored destination. With rich races on offer and the exceptional facilities at Meydan Racecourse, we are proud to enhance prize money and welcome international participation throughout the season."
The Racing Carnival will now span the entire season at Meydan, from November to March, allowing international trainers, jockeys, and horses an extended opportunity to compete in Dubai. The purses for the 2023-2024 Racing Carnival have increased by AED11m, representing a significant 27% rise compared to the previous season, reaching a total of AED24.7m for the three main meetings.
The Racing Carnival will consist of 14 meetings, excluding Dubai World Cup day, with each meeting featuring seven to nine races. Most races will take place on Fridays, with Super Saturday and the World Cup being held on Saturdays.
Further details about the racing calendar and purse structure will be announced by the Racing Club in due course. As the anticipation builds, horse racing enthusiasts can look forward to an exhilarating Dubai Racing Carnival season filled with thrilling competitions and enhanced rewards for all involved.
