Breaking Through The Lens Launches Action Grant with Chopard at Cannes 2023

Breaking Barriers at Cannes 2023

BTTL and Chopard Collaborate to Launch an Empowering Action Grant—Official Partner of the Cannes Festival

Breaking Through The Lens is thrilled to unveil the introduction of the Action Grant, a groundbreaking development grant of 10,000 Euros designed to support underrepresented gender directors. This significant initiative is made possible through a collaboration with Chopard, the globally renowned watch and jewelry house and Official Partner of the Cannes Film Festival. The Action Grant marks BTTL most impactful endeavor yet, aiming to empower marginalized filmmakers with a feature film in development by providing concrete assistance towards moving into production, supported by a committed grant of 10,000 Euros. Caroline Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, will serve as a distinguished member of the Grant Official Jury, and the grant recipient will earn a coveted spot in BTTL esteemed 2024 lineup.

Caroline Scheufele, President of Chopard, expressed her enthusiasm for this joint initiative, stating, "As a devoted cinephile, Chopard has had the privilege of intertwining our brand with the world of film for several decades. As a woman, I am acutely aware of the scarcity of female representation in the industry. That why I deeply admire the work initiated by BTTL, and it was only natural for Chopard to lend its support to this organization and its overarching mission."

The Action Grant is open to filmmakers who face marginalization due to their gender, including cisgender women, transgender women, transgender men, and non-binary individuals. BIPOC filmmakers and those with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted from May 23rd to July 31st, with comprehensive details available at breakingthroughthelens.org.

The winner of the Action Grant will be announced at the Venice International Film Festival in early September, where Chopard will proudly host the momentous occasion.
