ADIPEC 2023: Accelerating Global Energy Transition

ADIPEC 2023: Accelerating Global Energy Transition: ADIPEC 2023 commenced on Monday in Abu Dhabi, inaugurating a pivotal gathering for the global energy sector. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, COP28 President-Designate and UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, delivered a keynote address during the opening ceremony, emphasizing the industry's role in propelling solutions for pressing challenges.

The overarching theme of ADIPEC 2023, 'Decarbonising. Faster. Together.', underscores the urgency of collective action to address climate and energy issues. Over the course of four days (2-5 October), the event has attracted more than 160,000 attendees from 160 countries. Notably, it features the participation of over 40 ministers and 120 global C-suite executives in more than 350 conference sessions, delving into key priorities such as methane and carbon emissions reduction, technology and renewables investment, decarbonization of heavy industries, and fostering the development of future leaders.

ADIPEC 2023 unfolds less than two months before COP28, providing a platform for major energy stakeholders to showcase their commitment to emission reduction and investments in innovative technologies and clean energy. This event serves as a stage to highlight diverse challenges and requirements of energy markets globally, fostering a dialogue aimed at finding solutions.

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber underscored the pivotal role of the energy industry in driving solutions, challenging the perception that it is part of the problem. He stated, "This is your opportunity to show the world that, in fact, you are central to the solution."

His Excellency Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, emphasized the significance of international collaboration in addressing energy challenges. The UAE, with one of the fastest-growing clean energy industries globally, aims to generate 19.8 gigawatts of clean energy by 2030. Additionally, the country aspires to become a leading producer of low-carbon hydrogen, targeting 1.4 million metric tonnes per annum by 2031 and 15 million metric tonnes per annum by 2050.

Tayba Al Hashemi, Chair of ADIPEC 2023 and CEO of ADNOC Offshore, echoed the call to action, stressing the need for collaborative efforts to decarbonize swiftly and create a sustainable future for the energy industry. She stated, "Decarbonizing, faster, together, is not just the theme of ADIPEC 2023, it is a rallying call to industry to work together to transform, decarbonize, and future-proof our industry."

The Opening Ceremony included pledges from global CEOs, reflecting a unified commitment to concrete actions facilitating decarbonization and the energy transition. A video featuring 10 CEOs highlighted the industry's collaborative approach to driving investments and partnerships for a faster global energy transition.

Amin H. Nasser, President and CEO of Aramco, affirmed the belief in coexisting energy security and sustainability, committing to supplying the world's energy needs while developing lower-carbon solutions.

The ministerial panel on 'Fast Tracking the Energy Transition' emphasized the importance of innovative policies, inclusive practices, and government involvement in achieving net-zero emissions and meeting increasing energy demands. Practicality and a clear roadmap were stressed by panel members, with an emphasis on avoiding political obstacles.

ADIPEC 2023 is set to feature 10 conferences, including a new hydrogen-focused conference and an expanded strategic decarbonization conference. With over 2,200 companies and 30 country pavilions across 16 exhibition halls, the event aims to facilitate cross-sector collaboration and partnerships crucial for driving impactful change.
