Poland's Hubert Hurkacz Reaches Shanghai Tennis Masters Semifinals
Polish tennis player Hubert Hurkacz advanced to the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters, an international tennis championship in China, by earning a thousand ranking points. He secured his spot by defeating Hungarian player Fabian Marojan in a thrilling three-set match (4-6, 6-1, 6-3) during the quarterfinals.
It took an hour and 43 minutes for Hurkacz to end Marojan's journey in the tournament. Marojan, who had previously defeated the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the round of 16, started the match strongly by winning the first set. However, Hurkacz regained his composure in the second set, which he won comfortably, and continued his excellent performance in the third set to secure the match.
In the next round, Hurkacz will face one of the American players, either Sebastian Korda or Ben Shelton, in a match that will be their first-ever encounter.
The remaining two quarterfinals are scheduled for tomorrow, Friday. In those matches, the 18th-seeded Bulgarian, Grigor Dimitrov, who eliminated the top-seeded Spaniard Carlos Alcarras in the round of 16, will face the 22nd-ranked Chilean, Nicolas Garry. Additionally, the fifth-seeded Russian, Andrey Rublev, will take on the 32nd-ranked Frenchman, Hugo Hombre.
