Saqr Ghobash Discusses Strengthening Parliamentary Cooperation with the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

New Delhi, October 14 - His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council, met with His Excellency Numan Kurtulmuş, President of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, on the sidelines of the ninth summit of G20 parliamentary leaders held in New Delhi.

At the outset of the meeting, His Excellency Saqr Ghobash congratulated His Excellency Numan Kurtulmuş on his new role as President of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey for the next five years, wishing him success in his duties and career.

The meeting was attended by the Federal National Council delegation, including His Excellency Marwan Al Muhairi, Mira Al Suwaidi, and Dr. Nidal Al Tunaiji, members of the Federal National Council. His Excellency Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman Al Nuaimi, the Secretary-General of the Council, Afra Al Basti, Deputy Secretary-General for Parliamentary Communications, and Tariq Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Deputy Secretary-General for Presidential Affairs, were also present. Additionally, several members of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey attended the meeting.

During the meeting, they discussed the existing parliamentary friendship and cooperation between the two councils and ways to enhance coordination, consultation, and the exchange of opinions on various matters of common interest. They also discussed improving communication between the two countries and facilitating visits and parliamentary activities between both sides.

His Excellency Saqr Ghobash emphasized the Federal National Council's commitment to strengthening parliamentary relations with the Turkish Parliament, underscoring that parliamentary relations are a significant driver for the growth and development of bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields. He noted the desire of both countries' governments to advance relations towards broader horizons and work together to fulfill the aspirations of the two friendly nations.

His Excellency mentioned the UAE's hosting of the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) at the end of 2023, considered the largest international conference on climate action. This effort aims to unify global endeavors to mitigate the impacts of climate change, strengthening environmental protection and enabling sustainable economic growth and human prosperity.

Saqr Ghobash invited Numan Kurtulmuş to visit the UAE to participate in the parliamentary conference held alongside the activities of COP28.

In response, Numan Kurtulmuş, President of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, emphasized the Turkish Parliament's commitment to maintaining constant communication with the Federal National Council by organizing more meetings and working with friendship groups and specialized commissions to intensify parliamentary visits and meetings in the interest of both parties.

He highlighted the substantial growth and development in relations between Turkey and the UAE, expressing his country's willingness to build distinguished relations with the UAE. Numan Kurtulmuş extended an official invitation to Saqr Ghobash to lead a parliamentary delegation to the Republic of Turkey.
