This morning, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) dispatched an aircraft carrying 33 tons of urgent food supplies to aid the victims of the earthquake that struck the Herat province in western Afghanistan. The earthquake resulted in the deaths and injuries of thousands, with the majority being women and children, and caused significant damage.
The delivery of these supplies is a collaborative effort involving several UAE humanitarian institutions, including the UAE Red Crescent Authority, the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. This initiative is conducted in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations, stated, "Sending this urgent food aid reflects the commitment of UAE humanitarian and charitable institutions to provide essential assistance during times of crisis, especially in the aftermath of natural disasters, which often lead to severe shortages of food and medical supplies. Swift intervention is crucial to support the affected population, particularly women, children, and the elderly."
