UAE Fourth Universal Periodic Review Report Adopted by UN Human Rights Council

The United Nations Human Rights Council has approved the United Arab Emirates' fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report during its 54th session in Geneva. The delegation representing the UAE in the adoption session was led by His Excellency Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Jarman, the Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva.

In his speech, His Excellency Al Jarman emphasized the significance of the UPR mechanism in actively contributing to the exchange of knowledge and the exploration of best international human rights practices. The UAE underscored its commitment to enhancing and developing its legislative, institutional, and national policy frameworks related to human rights. The country informed the Human Rights Council that it had accepted 198 recommendations, and many of these recommendations had already been implemented on the ground. As for the remaining recommendations, the UAE pledged to execute them within the next four and a half years.

The speech further revealed that the UAE is currently working on a national human rights plan, focusing primarily on implementing the recommendations accepted within the framework of the fourth periodic review. The UAE will continue to strengthen technical cooperation with the National Human Rights Institution, established in accordance with the Paris Principles. Additionally, it will work on enhancing and developing the Permanent Committee on Human Rights as a national mechanism for implementation, reporting, and follow-up.

The adoption session of the UAE's report received praise from participating delegations and numerous non-governmental organizations. They commended the UAE's responsiveness to the recommendations made and its commitment to their implementation, all of which contributes to the promotion and protection of human rights.

The United Arab Emirates remains committed to advancing its human rights agenda by further developing its legislative and regulatory systems, aligning with the comprehensive renaissance witnessed across all levels. The country's continued success in building a society grounded in justice, tolerance, and openness is in line with the values underpinning its community.
