Google Cloud Unveils New AI Solutions for Retail
Google Cloud Unveils New AI Solutions for Retail: Ahead of NRF (National Retail Federation) 2024, Google Cloud revealed a series of new AI-based technologies last week aimed at assisting retailers in personalizing online purchases, modernizing operations, and transforming in-store technology deployments. This initiative, according to the company, addresses the growing demand from retailers seeking operational efficiency and personalized shopping experiences.
In 2023, numerous companies across different sectors decided to tap into the potential of Generative AI, and online commerce was no exception. According to a recent study by Google Cloud, 81% of US retail industry decision-makers feel the urgency to adopt generative AI, with 72% of them ready to deploy it in 2024.
Carrie Tharp, Vice President of Strategic Industries at Google Cloud, highlights the rapid evolution of this technology:
"In just one year, generative AI has gone from a barely recognized concept to one of the fastest capabilities in technology and an essential element of many retailers' programs. With the ability to accelerate growth, increase efficiency, drive innovation, and reduce laborious tasks, generative AI solutions are ready to be deployed now, and Google Cloud's recent innovations can help retailers realize value in 2024."
Creating personalized online shopping experiences with Conversational Commerce
Google Cloud introduced Conversational Commerce, a solution that enables retailers to easily integrate advanced conversational AI agents on their websites and mobile applications. These agents, powered by Google's Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 LLMs, can suggest personalized products based on the buyer's preferences using natural language, providing nuanced shopping experiences.
For example, a virtual agent can converse with a buyer looking for an evening dress for a wedding, suggesting personalized product options based on favorite colors, venue type, weather, matching accessories, and budget.
Optimizing customer service with "Customer Service Modernization"
This solution, aiming to enhance self-service and customer engagement rates, integrates with a retailer's existing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. It enables the deployment of AI agents to provide personalized product recommendations, schedule appointments, or check order statuses.
It allows retailers to simultaneously manage multiple customer engagement channels, such as emails, SMS, phone calls, and online chat, seamlessly transitioning between them during interactions with the service. The solution, based on Google's Gemini Pro and PaLM 2 LLMs, can run on Google Cloud's Vertex AI platform or integrate with a retailer's existing catalog management applications.
The LLM functionality in Vertex AI Search for retail has also been enhanced, providing retailers with search and recommendations tailored to their unique catalog.
Simplifying catalog management with "Catalog and Content Enrichment"
This automated solution from Google Cloud uses AI to streamline and accelerate retailers' product catalog management, a time-consuming and costly task. Built on Vertex AI and utilizing Gemini Pro and the "text-to-image" model Imagen 2, it generates detailed and appealing product descriptions, enhancing customer shopping experiences and strengthening product online presence on search engines.
"Google Distributed Cloud Edge," a combined hardware and software offering
Google Distributed Cloud Edge, Google Cloud's hardware and software offering, now has a configuration tailored for retailers. It simplifies the deployment, management, and scaling of AI applications and innovations across thousands of sites, even with low-latency internet connectivity. The solution is fully managed by Google Cloud, providing, deploying, operating, and maintaining the hardware.
The generative AI solutions Conversational Commerce, Customer Service Modernization, and Catalog and Content Enrichment will be available during the first quarter of 2024, along with the Google Distributed Cloud Edge offering.
