Chinese Premier Li Qiang addressed the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos, Switzerland. Here is the complete speech:
Your Excellency President Viola Amherd, Professor Klaus Schwab, Your Excellencies State Leaders and Heads of International Organizations, Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends,
Greetings to you all. It gives me great pleasure to come to the beautiful Davos for the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2024.
The theme of this meeting, "Rebuilding Trust," resonates well with people's concerns and will surely strike a chord with many. As I see it, the word "rebuild" implies at least three things. First, trust was once prevalent, enabling significant progress in economic globalization. Second, the foundation of trust has now eroded, aggravating risks to global growth. Third, rebuilding trust is essential, requiring the discard of prejudice, bridging differences, and working as one to tackle the trust deficit.
Where does trust come from? It comes from our shared aspiration for a better future and our common will to work together for that vision. Changes in the world are unfolding like never before, and the world has entered a new period of turbulence and transformation. However, the overall direction of human development, the dynamics of world history, and the trend toward a shared future for the international community will not change. Cherishing communication, exchange, solidarity, cooperation, openness, and peace is crucial. In this context, I propose five measures for rebuilding trust and enhancing economic cooperation:
- Strengthening macroeconomic policy coordination for global growth.
- Enhancing international industrial specialization and collaboration for stable global industrial and supply chains.
- Promoting international exchanges and cooperation on science and technology.
- Boosting cooperation on green development to tackle climate change.
- Strengthening North-South and South-South cooperation for an inclusive world economy.
