UAE and UN's World Food Programme Discuss Humanitarian Cooperation

In a recent meeting at the Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, welcomed Cindy McCain, the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). The discussion during this meeting centered on cooperation and coordination between the UAE and the WFP to provide humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, where the humanitarian situation for civilians has worsened significantly.

His Highness emphasized the urgent need to secure humanitarian corridors, allowing regional and international organizations to play their role in delivering aid to the civilians in Gaza and extending a helping hand to those in need.

The meeting, which took place at the Al Shati Palace in Abu Dhabi, covered various aspects of cooperation between the UAE and the WFP, particularly in addressing food security challenges and ensuring access to food for vulnerable populations in impoverished regions, conflict zones, and crisis areas at both regional and global levels.

His Highness, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, reiterated the UAE's commitment to supporting the World Food Programme in various regions worldwide, reflecting the country's humanitarian approach in standing by those in need and providing assistance.

He stressed the importance of enhancing international humanitarian solidarity in addressing global food crises, as it is closely tied to global peace and security.

Cindy McCain, the Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme, expressed her appreciation for the influential role of the UAE and its continuous cooperation with the program, particularly in supporting those affected in conflict and disaster-stricken regions. She also commended the UAE's pioneering initiatives in tackling global food security challenges and its innovative approach to promoting sustainable food security solutions.

The meeting was attended by Her Excellency Reem Bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation.
