Cybersecurity Experts Showcase Leading Solutions at GITEX 2023

Dubai, Cybersecurity experts gathered at GITEX Global 2023 to discuss innovative solutions for addressing cyber threats. During the event's first day, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Kuwaiti, the Head of Cybersecurity for the United Arab Emirates government, emphasized the role of digital transformation in enhancing cooperation across all sectors in the UAE. He underscored the importance of the efforts made by the UAE's Cybersecurity Council throughout the country and its collaboration with partners to protect individuals and institutions from potential threats.

This discussion took place during a panel session on "Cybersecurity in the Digital Transformation Era" at GITEX Global 2023. The panel included His Excellency Aamer Sharif, the CEO of Cybersecurity Systems and Services at Dubai Electronic Security Center, Nathan Swain, former Security Advisor to the UK government, His Excellency Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Othman, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications in Brunei, and His Excellency Alhaji Ebrima Sallah, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Gambia.

The participants exchanged their views on balancing security and innovation in the digital age, stressing the importance of collaboration between public and private entities. They also highlighted the need for continued investment in cybersecurity.

"Huawei" showcased its advanced cybersecurity capabilities and solutions during the event to address the evolving threats faced by companies and nations during their digital transformation journey.

Dr. Alessio Chiang, the Chief Security Officer for Huawei Middle East and Central Asia, mentioned that generative artificial intelligence contributes to enhancing cybersecurity but may have potential weaknesses and risks. He emphasized the proactive approach required from companies, governments, and society to address these risks, establish ethical practices for generative artificial intelligence in cybersecurity, and create robust governance frameworks for these practices.

Chiang called for strengthened cooperation and information exchange among companies to effectively combat cybersecurity threats. He stated, "We should mobilize and focus our efforts on establishing a data security governance framework and adopting a 'data-driven' model to address any emerging technology, whether it is cloud-based or artificial intelligence-related."

Moreover, GITEX Global 2023 witnessed the global launch of "GITEX Cyber Valley," the largest cybersecurity event of the year, organized by the UAE's Cybersecurity Council. This event also hosted several hackathon activities with over 500 ethical hackers participating in five challenges aimed at solving global technology problems.

Participants at the event could explore the "X-Labs Security" platform, an advanced platform hosting in-depth technical discussions and explanatory presentations about the latest products.

The "Technology Innovation Institute (TII)" unveiled a prototype of the Super Formula self-driving car by Dallara, which will debut in the world's first self-driving racing event at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in April 2024.

Dr. Tom McCarthy, the CEO of Aspire, the program and research project management arm of the Advanced Technology Research Council, said, "The Dallara Super Formula car has been adapted with autonomous control, allowing it to perceive its surroundings and race autonomously at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Vehicles Championship represents a significant milestone for Abu Dhabi and the UAE as a whole, paving the way for groundbreaking innovations in the field of mobility from the gateway of extreme sports."

GITEX Global and "Xpand North Star" jointly host 41 halls spanning over 2.7 million square feet, surpassing the previous edition by 40%. Together, they bring together 1,800 startups and some of the brightest minds and most ambitious companies to shape, study, develop, and empower digital agendas for the world.
