Sharjah Economic Report 2022: 51 Years of Progress

Sharjah, The Sharjah Economic Development Department has released its annual report for the year 2022, titled "51 Years of Radiance."

The report encompasses key developments and events in the economic sectors, as well as the measures and efforts undertaken by the department across various industries and activities. Its primary objective is to provide a comprehensive tool for stakeholders in the Emirate's economic sectors and inform them of the most significant accomplishments, reaffirming the department's commitment to achieving balanced and sustainable economic performance and enhancing business continuity in various fields.

H.E. Hamad Ali Abdullah Al Mahmoud, the Chairman of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, stated that the department is progressing towards its sustainable goals. Recognizing the magnitude of challenges and rapidly changing dynamics, the department adopts well-thought-out strategies and action plans to oversee the future of economic and developmental work. This vision is in alignment with the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and under the supervision of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. The department is committed to realizing the highest levels of excellence and leadership, ensuring global competitiveness and improving performance indicators across various domains.

The department has dedicated itself to producing comprehensive annual reports for over 11 years, documenting economic development achievements. The statistics and data within the report reflect the extensive efforts invested by the department in fulfilling its responsibilities. The department is committed to continuous development in line with its strategic objectives and ambitions to provide exceptional economic services with unwavering determination and ongoing dedication.

According to the department's data, developmental indicators have shown significant growth. The total number of business licenses issued and renewed in 2022 increased by 5% compared to 2021, reaching over 72,242 business licenses. The report also highlights a qualitative increase in commercial, professional, and industrial licenses by 8%, 24%, and 9%, respectively, in 2022 compared to 2021.

Moreover, women entrepreneurs in Sharjah saw a 15% growth in business licenses during 2022. The department has regulated economic activities and sectors by establishing policies, standards, and systems in line with the current economic situation.

Noura Yousef bin Sandal, the Deputy Director of the Planning and Economic Studies Department at the Sharjah Economic Development Department, emphasized that the annual report is an essential annual event that keeps pace with the renaissance experienced by the Emirate. It provides the data, statistics, and analyses needed by investors and decision-makers to monitor the most important economic indicators in Sharjah. This, in turn, facilitates the accessibility of the annual report to various entities and helps them derive insights into the economic development prospects and future of Sharjah. It documents the economic journey of the Emirate by tracking and recording all the developments and changes occurring annually across various sectors and reflects the efforts made to enhance economic development.

The annual report provides ample space for monitoring the local economy in general and the economic indicators of Sharjah in particular. The results for 2022 revealed positive performance in many economic indicators in Sharjah, spanning most sectors. The department introduced 90 services in 2022, and the satisfaction rate of users for technical support reached 99.98%. The number of infrastructure development projects reached 12, and the complaint resolution rate in 2022 was 98.8%.
