COP28 President Meets Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Scholars to Discuss Interfaith Pavilion Arrangements

COP28 President Meets Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Scholars to Discuss Interfaith Pavilion Arrangements

Abu Dhabi, October 20 - His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President of the Conference of the Parties "COP28," emphasized the significance of involving religious leaders and their representatives in the global efforts to address climate change and find tangible solutions to protect humanity and the planet. This commitment aligns with the leadership's vision in the United Arab Emirates.

This statement came during his meeting with His Excellency Mohammed Abdul Salam, the Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Scholars, to discuss the final preparations for the interfaith pavilion at "COP28" and the expectations for the upcoming Summit of Religious Leaders and Representatives hosted in Abu Dhabi on November 6 and 7.

During the meeting, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber commended the efforts of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and His Holiness Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church, in promoting interfaith dialogue to tackle the consequences of climate change. They have achieved this through organizing the Global Summit of Religious Leaders and their participation in the interfaith pavilion at "COP28."

On his part, the Secretary-General of the Council of Muslim Scholars praised the efforts of "COP28" in enhancing cooperation and collaborative work with all relevant parties to make substantial progress in addressing the existential threat of climate change to life on Earth.

In alignment with the UAE's leadership vision, "COP28" aims to be a turning point in achieving tangible and essential progress in global climate action, concurrent with the pursuit of sustainable economic and social development. This objective is supported by a four-pillar plan:

  1. Accelerating the transition to an organized, responsible, fair, and logical energy sector.
  2. Developing climate finance mechanisms.
  3. Protecting both people and nature while improving living conditions and ways of life.
  4. Supporting the previous pillars by fully involving everyone in the conference's operational system.

The commitment to these pillars is central to "COP28's" mission to address the pressing issue of climate change effectively and sustainably.
