Bahrain and Oman Explore Strengthening Tourism Ties

Bahrain and Oman Explore Strengthening Tourism Ties

Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce and Acting Minister of Tourism, recently met with Salim bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, the Omani Minister of Heritage and Tourism, during the 7th meeting of GCC Tourism Ministers held in Oman on October 4-5.

Fakhro highlighted Bahrain's commitment to enhancing cooperation in the field of tourism with the Sultanate of Oman. He stressed that this commitment is deeply rooted in the strong relations between the two nations, as well as their shared visions and goals for developing the tourism industry.

Minister Fakhro reaffirmed this commitment within the framework of the executive program outlined in the memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation. This significant agreement was signed in October 2022 between the Government of Bahrain, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.

Both sides emphasized the need for continued collaborative efforts to capitalize on the attractive destinations and significant tourism potential that both nations share. The objective is to strengthen the tourism sectors in both countries by responsibly and sustainably utilizing natural, cultural, and historical resources.

They also discussed the strategic goal of attracting a larger number of tourists and visitors. This can be achieved by forging new partnerships with global tourism and travel organizations and accessing diverse tourism markets worldwide.

The meeting explored strategies for improving air and sea connectivity between Bahrain and Oman to facilitate seamless travel and movement. This joint effort is aimed at increasing the number of tourists traveling between the two countries and promoting cultural and trade exchanges.

The discussion extended to collaborative efforts in joint tourism marketing and the exchange of expertise in managing tourism resources.

Opportunities for cooperation were also explored in the sector of infrastructure development and the enhancement of tourism services. This includes initiatives like training and professional development for the tourism workforce.
