Dubai Unveils Groundbreaking Family Support Initiative with Paid Marriage Leave and Flexible Work Policies

Dubai, UAE – A New Initiative to Empower Emirati Families and Foster a Thriving Society

In an effort to further enhance the well-being and stability of families in Dubai, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum, wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, has officially launched the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme. This groundbreaking program seeks to offer comprehensive support to Emirati families, empowering them to thrive both socially and economically while nurturing the values that shape a prosperous society.

Strengthening Family Foundations for a Better Future

Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum’s new family programme is designed to offer critical support to Emirati families, providing them with the resources and tools necessary for growth, stability, and happiness. As a society rooted in tradition and communal values, the programme reflects the leadership’s vision to enhance the role of the family as the core unit for societal cohesion.

“Our goal is to foster stronger, happier families who will contribute positively to society. By empowering families with the right resources and opportunities, we are ensuring that Emiratis are well-prepared to face future challenges,” said Sheikha Hind. “This initiative is not just about financial support, but about instilling the values that make families the foundation of a strong society.”

Her Highness emphasized that strong families are at the heart of creating a sustainable and prosperous future for Dubai, and this new programme is aligned with national goals to strengthen family stability and enable the growth of future generations.

A Holistic Approach to Family Support

The Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme introduces a wide-ranging suite of benefits aimed at supporting Emirati families in a holistic manner. These include a range of financial, social, and educational initiatives that work together to enhance family well-being. Below are some of the key features of the programme:

  1. Wedding Assistance: Recognizing the significance of weddings in Emirati culture, the programme offers substantial support to couples. This includes covering major wedding expenses, offering free wedding venues and Majlises, and providing financial support to both parties. Additionally, couples can benefit from discounts via the Esaad card, which offers further savings on various services.
  2. Housing Support: The programme works in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment to offer housing support to young couples, ensuring they have access to affordable and ready-made housing. This is particularly beneficial to those participating in the Dubai Weddings Programme, which has seen tremendous success in its first year, increasing the number of Emirati weddings in Dubai.
  3. Flexible Work Policies: In a move designed to balance family life and professional responsibilities, the programme introduces flexible work policies for working mothers and fathers. A key policy is the offering of a 10-day paid marriage leave for government employees in Dubai, allowing them to celebrate this special occasion without financial strain. Additionally, new mothers can benefit from the option to work remotely on Fridays during the first year after their maternity leave.
  4. Educational and Training Programs: Aimed at preparing young couples for a successful future together, the programme offers several educational initiatives, including a financial literacy course, marriage awareness workshops, and practical advice on building homes. These programs are designed to equip individuals with the tools they need to plan their futures, manage finances wisely, and build lasting and fulfilling relationships.
  5. Future Growth and Expansion: The programme is not static; it will evolve over time to meet the changing needs of Emirati families. Future phases of the initiative will introduce new services in areas such as health, education, and further social support. The programme’s overarching goal is to enhance the quality of life for families in Dubai and strengthen the fabric of the community.

A Vision for a Stronger, More Connected Society

Dubai’s Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme aligns with the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aims to double the number of Emirati families in the emirate by 2033. This long-term vision is aimed at creating a socially connected society where families are supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. By strengthening the role of the family as the cornerstone of society, Dubai is laying the foundation for a bright and prosperous future.

“We want to ensure that every Emirati family can lead a fulfilling life, where their social, financial, and emotional needs are met. This programme reflects our commitment to the future of the nation, helping families not only to survive but to thrive in every aspect of their lives,” concluded Sheikha Hind.

For Emirati couples planning to marry, the Dubai Weddings Programme offers an easy registration process via the Dubai Now app or the Community Development Authority’s website. The programme’s benefits are available to new members starting from January 4, 2025, with housing benefits available within one year of receiving support through the programme.

As Dubai continues to innovate and offer world-class services to its citizens, the Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum Family Programme is a vital step towards building a more stable, prosperous, and cohesive society.
