Embark on a cinematic experience like no other with the world premiere of "Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry," a captivating film selected for the feature film competition at the 2023 Directors' Fortnight in Cannes.
Directed by @Eelene_Naveriani and produced by Alva Film Production / @alvafilmprod, this mesmerizing 110-minute masterpiece takes us to a modest drugstore in a Georgian village. Meet Ethéro, a 48-year-old woman who embraces her independence and shrugs off the mockery from her peers. Suddenly, she discovers love—a first love that shakes her world while preserving her unwavering sense of self. The sensuality portrayed in the film transcends mere sexuality, much like its enigmatic title: a blackbird fleetingly perched in a thicket of blackberries as we gather them.
Elene Naveriani, a graduate of the State Academy of Art in Tbilisi, combines her artistic background in painting with her passion for filmmaking. Their previous work, "I Am Truly a Drop of Sun on Earth," premiered at IFFR and received accolades at the Entrevues de Belfort and Valladolid film festivals. "Wet Sand," another remarkable film by Naveriani, premiered at Locarno and earned the coveted Pardo for Best Actor.
Immerse yourself in the extraordinary performances of Eka Chavleishvili as Ethéro and Teimuraz Chinchinadze as Mourmane. With the remarkable cinematography by Agnesh Pakozdi and the evocative sound design by Marc von Stürler and Philippe Ciompi, the film's aesthetics captivate viewers, complementing the nuanced storytelling. The enchanting production design by Teo Baramidze and the skillful editing by Aurora Franco Vögeli further elevate the film's visual and narrative impact.
