UAE National Human Rights Committee Participates in the 54th Session of the UN Human Rights Council
The 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, held at the UN headquarters in Geneva, witnessed the participation of a delegation from the National Human Rights Committee of the United Arab Emirates, led by Her Excellency Fatima Al Kaabi, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee. The delegation attended the session as "observers" during the adoption of the recommendations from the fourth periodic review of the UAE, which took place on October 3, 2023.
Additionally, the delegation took part in various side events related to human rights during the session. These events covered issues of great interest and relevance to the Committee's mission to enhance and protect human rights.
Her Excellency Fatima Al Kaabi emphasized that the Committee's participation in the 54th session of the Human Rights Council aligns with the commitment to monitor international human rights developments and reflect the global perspective and non-governmental organizations' assessments of the ongoing progress in the UAE's human rights efforts. She also expressed appreciation for the recognition extended by nations and organizations towards the UAE's dedication to human rights, particularly through the establishment of the National Human Rights Committee in accordance with the principles of Paris.
The presence of the National Human Rights Committee's delegation at the current session of the Human Rights Council signifies the current human rights focus in the UAE to monitor human rights developments and highlight internationally relevant issues in this context.
The delegation from the National Human Rights Committee included Her Excellency Maryam Al Ahmadi, Chairperson of the International Relations and Non-Governmental Organizations Committee, Ms. Aliya Al Mazmi, Acting Director of the Council Affairs and Committees Office, and Mr. Abdulaziz Al Owaisan, Head of the International and Regional Organizations Department.
