UAE Sustainability Team Urges Increased Climate Action Efforts
DUBAI, The "Year of Sustainability" team has issued a call to all those who consider the United Arab Emirates their homeland to step up their efforts in favor of climate action.
In their latest video release, the team emphasized the need to work together and embrace positive and sustainable behaviors, such as using eco-friendly transportation, reducing waste, conserving electricity and water, and cultivating plants at home. They highlighted the collective impact of individual actions in addressing climate change.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, declared the year 2023 as the "Year of Sustainability" with the motto "Today for Tomorrow" in the country.
During the Year of Sustainability, the initiative calls on individuals to adopt environmental sustainability practices at both individual and societal levels, following an approach that promotes conscious and responsible consumption, environmental preservation, and the encouragement of collective action to combat climate change.
Maryam Al-Muraikhi, the Digital Strategy Director of the Year of Sustainability team, said, "We want to remind everyone of the importance of individual actions, adopting responsible consumption, and preserving nature through simple steps in our daily routines, such as portioning our meals appropriately, reducing red meat consumption, and avoiding single-use plastic." She also emphasized the significance of sustainable fashion, stating that these simple choices can have an effective impact on the climate.
Issa Al-Sabousi, the Director of the Sustainability Year project, added, "As the United Arab Emirates prepares to host the Conference of the Parties (COP28), we urge everyone to intensify their efforts and work together to address climate change. It is our responsibility to do everything we can to act in favor of the climate, and our collective efforts in sustainability today will shape our future for generations to come."
