ACC organized two dynamic panels during the 74th Berlin International Film Festival European Film Market. Shedding light on MENA box-office insights and the growth of the Saudi film industry. These panels attracted a vibrant turnout from both international and Arab filmmakers.
The first panel, titled 'Box-Office Bonanza,' discussed the MENA region's box-office revenues, nearing the impressive milestone of $1 billion. Notable figures from the global film industry, including Wayne Borg from NEOM, Gianluca Chakra from Front Row Entertainment. Mario Haddad Jr, from Empire International, and Alaa Karkouti from MAD Solutions. Participated in the discussion moderated by Melanie Goodfellow from Deadline.
The second panel, International Tipping Point for Saudi Filmmaking, explored the evolution of the Saudi film industry over the past 12 years. It highlighted Saudi Arabia's growing presence in the global festival circuit and its significant investment in cinema infrastructure. Moderated by Michael Rosser from Screen International, the panel featured speakers such as Mohannad Al-Bakri from the Jordanian Royal Film Commission. Producers Doroth Beinemeier and Mariam Sassine, and Imad Iskandar from the Red Sea Film Fund.
In addition to the panels, ACC's activities during the Berlinale included releasing a new edition of AC Magazine. Honoring Mohannad Al-Bakri as its Arab Personality of 2023, and announcing the latest critics to join the jury of its Arab Critics' Awards.
The Arab Cinema Center (ACC), established by MAD Solutions ten years ago, serves as a non-profit organization based in Berlin.
