Dubaï News Talent: Dubai Culture Earns Autism Friendly Certificates

Inclusivity Championed: Dubai Culture Earns Autism Friendly Certificates

Advancing the cause of inclusivity as part of the "My Community… a City for Everyone" initiative, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has been recognized with Autism Friendly Certificates (AFC) in the cultural facilities category. This accolade resonates with the Authority commitment to make Dubai an accommodating city for people of determination, aligning with its vision of fostering a diverse and inclusive society.

The prestigious AFC was awarded to cultural landmarks that have demonstrated a dedication to creating welcoming spaces for individuals with autism. Among the recipients were Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children, Etihad Museum, and Al Shindagha Museum. The certificates were formally presented at the Dubai Autism Centre headquarters during an official visit by a delegation from Dubai Culture.

The delegation, led by Director General Hala Badri, showcased Dubai Culture commitment to inclusivity. The event was attended by key figures, including Muna Faisal Algurg, Director General of Culture and Heritage Sector at Dubai Culture, and Abdullah Alfalasi, Director of Etihad Museum.

Founded in 2001 by a decree from the Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Autism Centre stands as a beacon of specialized care for children with autism and provides invaluable support to their families and caregivers.

Under Decree No. 26 of 2021, the center aims to establish Dubai as a global hub for accredited special education programs and specialized rehabilitation services for individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The center relies on grants, donations, and charitable contributions to fuel its mission.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a lifelong neurological and developmental condition, typically emerging in early childhood. It can significantly affect social interactions, communication, and behavior. Studies highlight the prevalence of ASD, with one in 44 children being affected.

By receiving Autism Friendly Certificates, Dubai Culture not only showcases its dedication to inclusivity but also reinforces its role in shaping a more compassionate and understanding society, where all individuals can participate and thrive.
